From a transformative Summer Academy at UC Berkeley to the international launch of Robolabs Chennai, from the next cohort of our Innovation Academy to the first tournaments of the season — we’re expanding our reach, deepening our impact, and staying focused on the mission: preparing the next generation to build, lead, and solve. Invent. Build. Present. Summer Academy 2025 Recap The second edition of our Robolabs Summer Academy at UC Berkeley was one for the books. In just five days, students immersed themselves in everything from robotics and mechanical design to neural networks, computer vision, and advanced large language models — and emerged with real, working prototypes to show for it. We opened with a challenge: treat this space not as school, but as a launchpad;  a place to take risks, collaborate deeply, and build boldly. Students rose to the occasion. They learned to program VEX robots using odometry and PID control, built AI projects in Python, and explored transformer architecture, vision models, and real-world AI ethics. Projects included: An AI-powered sensory navigator for neurodivergent individuals A self-driving emergency response vehicle with full CAD design A real-time weightlifting form checker using computer vision A live AI presentation generator A VEX AI competition strategy team ready for the season Guest speakers from AWS, Borde, and UltraFlex shared insights from cloud infrastructure to synthetic training data. Berkeley MET students closed the week with tactical college application advice. By the end, these students weren’t just absorbing knowledge — they were applying advanced ideas to solve real problems. Watching them take on graduate-level topics and turn them into bold, thoughtful solutions was the clearest sign of all: this next generation is ready to build. The Robolabs Summer Academy returns each year, and it continues to grow in depth, scope, and impact. Learn More From the Bay to Chennai: Robolabs Expands to India We’re proud to announce the launch of Robolabs India – Chennai Center, our first international location. This expansion has been years in the making — a way to give back and extend our mission to new communities. Chennai, a city known for its deep academic tradition and tech-forward mindset, offers the perfect place to start building something meaningful abroad. Our new center offers year-round robotics classes for ages 5 to 15, launching with the VEX IQ platform. Students explore foundational concepts like speed, torque, friction, and gear ratios, then apply their learning through hands-on building, design, and programming — all in a fun, supportive, and challenge-based environment. Classes run Tuesday–Saturday in 2-hour sessions Flexible, month-to-month enrollment starting at ₹5,000/month Students in Chennai will also tap into our broader Robolabs ecosystem — gaining access to expert guidance, proven pedagogy, and a global network of curious, creative builders. The VEX Robotics competition ecosystem includes over 4,000 official events worldwide each season, hosted across more than 40 countries. These events lead up to VEX Worlds, recognized by Guinness World Records as the largest student robotics competition on Earth. Innovation Academy: Batch 12 Launching August 3 Applications are now open for Batch 12 of the RoboLabs Innovation Academy, our flagship 18-month program where students go from idea to invention — and beyond. In the first year, students develop a unique solution to a real-world problem and file a provisional or utility patent. In the final stretch, they write and publish a research paper based on their innovation. The entire experience is fully online, collaborative, and led by experienced mentors. This program is ideal for students who want to: Extend what they’ve learned in robotics into real-world applications Build a college-ready portfolio that showcases creativity and initiative Collaborate with a driven cohort of peers from across the country Batch 12 kicks off August 3, and spaces are limited. I’m Interested Tournament Season Is Here The 2025–26 competition season is officially underway, and we’re excited to see what our teams have been building. Robolabs will be hosting tournaments throughout the season — from August all the way through March.
