CREATE Award at the VEX AI World Championship |
|
This June, we traveled to Houston for the VEX AI World Championship, where our team delivered an outstanding performance and brought home the CREATE Award — a recognition given to the team with the most creative engineering solution and innovative design approach.
The competition brought together the best autonomous robotics teams in the world, and once again, we proved we belong at the top. It was an incredible weekend full of learning, collaboration, and cutting-edge AI robotics.
Our students evolve from competitors into global innovators, equipped with real-world AI experience. |

💡 RoboFacts: What Is VEX AI, Really? In contrast to V5 — which features a brief, pre-programmed autonomous period followed by driver control — VEX AI is fully autonomous. Robots use a VEX GPS local positioning system, relying on QR-coded field strips for precise X‑Y‑Heading localization. Combined with Intel RealSense cameras, a Jetson computer, and the V5 Brain, this setup allows for real-time object detection and intelligent navigation.
The pilot kicked off in 2021, and Robolabs was there at the start — earning the Excellence Award at the inaugural VEX AI World Championship at Innovation First International HQ.
With its blend of sensor fusion, onboard computing, and real-time autonomy, VEX AI offers students a rare opportunity to step into the world of applied AI, computer vision, and robotic systems design — the same technologies driving today’s most exciting innovations. |

Robolabs Camps: Think, Build, Play, All Summer Long |
|
Summer at Robolabs means one thing: robots, creativity, and nine weeks of hands-on fun. From June 9 to August 8, our full- and half-day camps are running across all three locations — Dublin, Fremont, and San Jose.
Whether your child is a first-time builder or a seasoned VEX IQ pro, each week brings new challenges in engineering, problem-solving, and creative invention.
Already enrolled? Spread the word! Spots are still available — and it’s a great chance for friends and siblings to jump in and join the adventure. |

| Help Support the Future of Robotics Education at UC Berkeley |
| As many of you know, Robolabs has long been committed to fostering innovation, curiosity, and excellence in STEM, and today we’re asking you to join us in supporting a cause deeply aligned with that mission.
The Robotics Instructional Lab at UC Berkeley, where many aspiring engineers receive hands-on experience in robotics, is in urgent need of updated equipment. Without philanthropic support, the lab will no longer be able to offer its robotics courses beyond this semester. In response, Dean Tsu-Jae King Liu of the College of Engineering is leading a campaign to raise $300,000 to modernize the lab and keep these vital courses running.
Berkeley plays a vital role as a public institution that makes world-class robotics and AI education more accessible. It attracts driven, thoughtful students from diverse backgrounds and equips them with the tools to contribute meaningfully to society. In an era where emerging technologies are transforming every industry, it’s essential that places like Berkeley have the resources to prepare the next generation of innovators.
We’ve seen many of our own Robolabs students go on to study engineering at UC Berkeley. Ensuring they — and future students — have access to up-to-date tools and instruction reflects our shared commitment to inclusive, high-quality STEM education.
We’re encouraging the Robolabs community to consider making a gift to support this effort.
Donations can be made through the Berkeley Engineering Fund.
Please be sure to specify “Robotics Instruction” or “Robotics Instruction / Robolabs” in the gift dedication section to support this initiative directly. |
